Honeymoon Travel

06.24-07.04 Map of Honeymoon Travels

06.24 Honeymoon, Day 1 (Purchase)
...Two days after the wedding we left Reagan National Airport in D.C. for Boston Logan Int'l. Here we had a few hour layover before boarding our red-eye to Shannon, County Clare, Ireland.
06.25 Honeymoon, Day 2 (3 pages) (Purchase)
...We arrived in Ireland just as the sun was coming up, around 8 AM local time, only to find out that our checked bags did not make it off the plane with us. We picked up the rental car and headed for Ennis, where our first B&B was to check in and shop for some warm clothes. We had our first "Irish Breakfast" here and Stefan had his first Guinness. Later that day, we headed to nearby Galway City in County Galway where we grabbed lunch and shopped until the stores closed down earlier than we expected. We ended up back in Ennis for dinner that evening.

           - (Music Video, 31 secs)
...The following day, we went back to Galway City to wrap up some souvenir shopping, before heading south to The Burren. While in The Burren, we visited the Dunguaire Castle, the Burren Perfumery, the Poulnabrone Portal Tomb, and the Aillwee Cave. Following our ride through The Burren, we visited the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. When we returned to our B&B after the day full of activities, our luggage was finally there waiting for us! That evening we had a delicious Irish dinner in Ennis and caught some live traditional Irish music at a downtown bar.

           - (Sunset Video, 9 secs)
...On our last full day staying on the west side, we started off at the Clare Museum in downtown Ennis, followed by the local Friary. Following our morning in Ennis, we drove down to the Shannon area to visit the Bunratty Castle & Theme Park. We stopped by the local winery where the Bunratty Meade and grain alcohol are produced, where we tasted samples. We then toured the Castle, which was much larger than the one from the prior day. After this, we headed back to Ennis for a quick break before returning for our Medieval Banquet at 8:45 PM.
06.28 Honeymoon, Day 5 (9 pages) (Purchase)
           - (Scenic Video, 16 secs)
...This was our big day to drive across the country from the west to the east. Before doing so, we checked out some incredible scenery on the Dingle Peninsula, just north of the more well known Ring of Kerry. During much of the visit to the peninsula, we were up in the clouds, as you'll see in the photos. The single-lane Connor Pass was rather interesting to say the least, but led us to the small waterfront town of Dingle (An Daingean) which we were glad to have seen. After seeing about 75% of the peninsula, we headed back east through Killarney, Cork, and many other small towns to get to our B&B in Kilkenny. It was a long day in the car.
06.29 Honeymoon, Day 6 (11 pages) (Purchase)
...We started out the day by going downtown in Kilkenny to see the Kilkenny Castle. But, we learned viewings were only by group tours and the next time slot wouldn't work with our schedule (to catch the boat later in the day). So, we took a few photos of the Black Abbey and the St. Canice's Cathedral before leaving town. We drove straight to the Dublin airport to return the rental car. With 45 minutes to spare to catch our ferry to the Isle of Man, we flagged down a taxi. We rushed by taxi to the sea terminal only to find our boat was running an hour late. What a beautiful day to sail across the Irish Sea.
06.30 Honeymoon, Day 7 (12 pages) (Purchase)
...On our first full day on the Isle of Man, we took the bus from Douglas west toward Peel. Along the way, we stopped at St. John's to check out Tynwald Hill. In Peel, we visited the Manx Transportation Museum, the Peel Castle, and the House of Manannan (museum). Next, we took the bus north to Ramsey, where we had a late lunch and saw the Swing Bridge. In Ramsey, we picked up the Electric Railway, typically an open air car, but not with the weather we had. We saw spectacular views of the coast on our way back down to Douglas. Once in Douglas, we took the horse tram to downtown. We had dinner near the hotel this night.
07.01 Honeymoon, Day 8 (13 pages) (Purchase)
           - (Castle Bell Video, 7 secs)
           - (Steam Rail Video, 29 secs)
...On our last day on the Isle of Man, we took the bus south to Port Erin for some quick photos before jumping on the next bus back towards Castletown. In Castletown, the only other castle on the Isle exists, and it's in great shape. We explored Castle Rushen for a couple of hours and then grabbed a bite to eat in town before catching the steam railway back to Douglas. Our ferry left the Isle of Man in the afternoon and was an extremely rocky ride. Upon our return to Ireland, we checked into our B&B in Dublin before heading to the City Centre for dinner in Temple Bar at the Hard Rock Cafe.
07.02 Honeymoon, Day 9 (7 pages) (Purchase)
...On our first full day in Dublin, we started out in the City Centre, from where we walked to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells (8th century gospels, Celtic art) exhibit and the Long Room in the library that was really impressive - but no photos allowed due to the old books. Next, we visited the Dublin Castle, both the newer portions and the older excavated part. We wrapped up our day in downtown by walking through some shopping areas. We had dinner at the Porterhouse near our B&B that night and got a good laugh out of all the anti-American beer references.
07.03 Honeymoon, Day 10 (14 pages) (Purchase)
           - (Storehouse Lease Video, 8 secs)
           - (Storehouse Welcome Video, 17 secs)
           - (Gravity Bar Video, 20 secs)
...The next day, we walked a couple of blocks from our B&B to the National Botanic Gardens. The gardens and glasshouses were absolutely amazing. We even got to see a prehistoric tree. Then, we hopped on the bus to the City Centre. From there, we walked to the Guinness Storehouse and spent about four hours there learning about the making of Guinness. We had lunch there before heading back through the shopping areas in Dublin and back on the bus to our B&B. We ate at Eddie Rockets for dinner, a burger joint, a short walk from our B&B.
07.04 Honeymoon, Day 11 (Purchase)
...We flew out of Dublin at around 11:10 AM on Wednesday on a 7-hour flight and arrived in Philadelphia around 1:30 PM. Our flight nearly made an early landing due to all lavatories on board filling up at just 5 hours into the flight. Upon landing, going through customs, security, etc. took nearly all the time we had during our layover. We boarded our puddle jumper to BWI around 3:30 PM and landed around 4:30 PM. We flew over The Cloisters on our way home - a great way to end the trip!
